Micro Aerospace Solutions has been working on a micro-scale Fluorescent Activated Cell Sorter (?FACS). This device is designed to be hand held and allow sorting of cells that have fluorescent characteristics such as green fluorescent protein (GFP) or live/dead staining. It could also be applied to any antibody or other staining system that takes advantage of fluorescence. The ?FACS system takes advantage of microfludics to create a cell sorter that can fit in the palm of the hand.
The system can also be tailored to counting other cell-types, molecules and particles. Applications include lab-on-a-chip systems, field-based medical instruments and small satellite/spacecraft scientific instruments. We are pleased to discuss other applications. Applications for hand-held medical diagnostic devices in developing areas of the world are of high interest.
Using our miniaturization experience from small satellite systems we are also developing biological and medical device instrumentation to sample and analyze cells and other biological material. We are also integrating small computer systems for medical device control and transfer of data to web pages for future health care applications.
We have developed incubators integrated with sensor systems and special cell culture devices for use in space-based life sciences experiments.
We are developing technology to assist in cellular reprogramming including induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) cells. Toward this end we are using RNAi and Zinc Finger Nuclease technology. Please contact us for more information.
A thermal cycler/incubator has been developed which allows the user to change the temperature routine and temperature set point. This allows the system to maintain temperature by a Thermo-Electric Cooler (TEC). It can quickly ramp up/down to various set points and uses PID control to maintain temperature.
We provide engineering consultation and support for various biotechnology projects that need electro-mechanical engineering support. For instance this is a 3-D model of a surgical device that we developed. We also are creating the pump control system for this device.
